In many regions, Africa is a hotspot for violence and the systematic persecution of Christians. Religious extremism and political instability mean that Christians are not only threatened in public, but are also specifically targeted and disadvantaged in all areas of life.

In countries such as Nigeria, Sudan, Mozambique and Chad, Christians are under immense pressure. Homes and churches are being attacked and burnt down, people are being killed or displaced, women are being systematically abused, and families are losing their means of subsistence. In Nigeria alone, over 25,000 Christians have been deliberately killed because of their faith in the last five years. For many Christians, the situation therefore represents not only a life of great uncertainty, but also an acute threat to their lives.

And yet something astonishing is happening: in the midst of hardship and persecution, local Christians are willing to help their persecuted brothers and sisters, even under the most difficult circumstances.

They provide displaced people with essential supplies, support traumatised individuals on their journey to recovery, and strengthen communities under severe pressure. At the same time, they promote sustainable prospects by facilitating training, building networks and creating small-scale income-generating opportunities.

This is how new hope is born – practical, tangible and rooted in faith. Through the harvesting offering we provide targeted support for carefully selected projects that address precisely these issues. Our aim is to provide effective help to those who are persecuted and in need in their current circumstances, and to open up new prospects for their future.
